Now Hiring Execs!!!

The UBC Venture Capital and Private Equity Club is currently looking for enthusiastic students to join the VCPE Executive Council. All executives will have a specific role as described below. All execs will also play a key role in all major decisions and help set the overall direction for the club.

As the club is topical and very specific, we expect it to be a fairly small club with a small executive team. This means a lot of responsibility for execs and a lot of work, but also a lot more influence in shaping the events themselves and a lot more collaboration between the exec team.

In particular, we are looking for those passionate about entrepreneurship and new ventures for the venture capital side or those keenly interested in entering the private equity field.

Please submit a cover letter and resume and details on what position you're applying for to ubcvcpe@gmail.com by Friday August 22nd. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling first come first serve basis so apply as soon as possible. If you are out of the country or unavailable, a phone interview can be arranged.

The positions we are hiring for are:

VP External

  • Develop a working relationship with professionals in the private equity and venture capital industry as well as relevant professionals in fields such as accounting, banking, and law.
  • Organize break/lunch/dinner sessions for students to ask questions and network. Organize speakers sessions and panel discussions
  • Help set the direction and topics for discussion at all UBC VC PE events.

VP Academic:

  • Develop relationships with other relevant undergraduate student societies. In the private equity front, this would include the finance club, the accounting club, and possibly some law related clubs. On the venture capital front, this would include engineering student societies and science student societies.
  • Help develop relationships with relevant professors and researchers on campus. In particular, help develop a working network between Sauder students and emerging start-ups and spin-offs coming from UBC.
  • Help organize workshops and seminars conducted by other student groups, professors and other relevant academic organizations. Topics could include anything from LBO’s to new venture financing to emerging trends in biotechnology.

VP Operations:

  • Plan and co-ordinate all events. As this is a small club, many of the events will be in intimate settings (restaurants, bars) so someone familiar with planning off-campus events would be ideal. Some large events could include panel discussions and the AGM.
  • Manage the logistics of collecting membership fees. Serve as key contact for those who want to become members. This includes helping to organize recruiting booths and stands and finding creative avenues to market the club.
  • Generate and organize major social or fundraising events designed to raise money, either for the club, a charitable cause, or a UBC program. The VP Operations would have considerable autonomy (and assistance) in doing this.

VP Corporate Relations

  • Design and create a sponsorship package to market the firm to potential sponsors.
  • Design and create an information sheet used to market the club to potential members and to potential guest speakers or workshop leaders.
  • Actively seek sponsorship revenue from all available sources. There may also be the possibility of using other avenues (besides sponsorship) to help generate revenue for the club.
  • Entrepreneurship skills would be ideal.

VP Marketing

  • Design and manufacture of all marketing materials.
  • Design and produce the sponsorship package
  • Design and maintain the Facebook Group, Blog, and Website.
  • This position has significant overlap with VP Corporate Relations and will play a key role in assisting the VP Operations with organizing and co-ordinating major events.
We currently have:
VP Finance: Cody Serpa
VP Internal: Rob Foxall
Special Counsel: Tina Zhao
President Adam Kim
